Our Methodology

MWS adopts a hands-on approach in training its participants. To ensure this is fully realized, MWS has prepared water quality manuals for issuance to participants. The training covers water quality standards and guidelines, sanitary surveys of water supply sources and protection of water sources. There is a session on water treatment with special emphasis on application of simple technologies on chlorinating various types of water supplies. This is followed by practical training sessions on sampling, water examination and tests, physical chemical and microbiological tests of water in the field using portable field kits, archiving of data and ways of involving community groups in the protection of local water sources.

Finally, MWS trains the participants on how to acquire ideal and affordable test kits, reagents, water purification chemicals, e.t.c. at affordable prices. MWS uses its portable kits which include the potatest, potakit, potaflex and potalab to carry out field training.

OUTPUTS:
The outputs include well grounded and knowledgeable technicians and water supply operators who will take charge of improved water quality supply to consumers. The participants are also issued with water quality manuals which they fall back to refresh their knowledge and to train other officers under their charge.

BENEFITS:
The benefits realized through proper training on water quality improvement and surveillance are invaluable in the following ways:

  • Reducing the number of consumers who may otherwise be exposed to contaminated water
  • Reducing the cost of water treatment through optimization of the use of chemicals
  • Creating necessary credibility and confidence with the consumers
  • Closing potential pathways through which a water firm may be sued by consumers for supplying water which is of doubtful quality.
